jaboticarba group

Post by Woz »

Hey Guys,
I recently got given a group of jaboticarba's for a birthday present and I am a little lost as to what to do with them. I am very open to comments and suggestions and value your experience. I think it would also be a good expreience to follow someone elses design just to get a different perspective.

The tray is approx 30cm x 50 cm x 5cm
The tallest of the group is approx 30cm high
the trunks range from 8mm to 16mm.(pencil like) I am hoping you don't think these are too thin to begin work on?

I am open to any styling characteristics so please show me what you would do, whatever takes your fancy :D
I look forward to seeing what you see for the future of the group.

I am also interested in replies on Jaboticaba, as i have a Group with the main tree about 600mm high and about 40mm at the base. I don't know much about Jaboticaba, but I have a problem with lower branches dying. If anyone has information on this it may woz in the future.
As for styling your group I would be inclined to take out 2 or 3 of the trees and plant them up in differing size containers
or even one into the ground for a couple of years to get some variation in trunk sizes
They have fantastic smooth trunks with mottled bark that peels each year, so I would feature the trunks as much as possible and develope a high canopy of foliage.
Thanks Jonden

hey mate,

i dont know much about group plantings, this is a bit off topic but if this got given to me i would pull them all out root trim them and fuse all the trunks together to make one tree. but my thing lately has been fusing stuff so yea, like i said off topic, and dont know to much bout groups but i think jon is right. you need to ground plant a ouple of these and thicken them too create visual impact, i would ground plant one for 2-3 grow seasons get some thickness and height on it, another for maybe 1-2 seasons so it is slightly smaller. creating depth and you could probly get away with leaving the rest as smaller trees, this would sort of show an image of a couple of older trees with the rest of the trees being younger and creating the illusion of a small woodland area..
but like i said, i have no experience with groups or these trees so yea..

best of luck Jamie
