The Voltron Project - Figs

Post by The Specimen »

Many of us would have seen Emperor Bonsais (you know the one.. the big as badass figs and if your in Melb Garden World has some spectacular ones) there should be an icon for drooling =]~

Anyhow, I have always wanted just one of these grand bonsai's.. just imagine WOW! however affordability is the issue

.. so last Winter I decided to take the long road and begin the journey.

Time is of essence as I recall one of them megasai's was 1940s era (I will take photos next time unless of course someone has pics of the magnificents to share)

I recruited some Figs to form my Voltron Fig.. these are the legs.. torsos and arms to come :D

All in all, there are 7 Figs forming the base or should I say Feet n Legs 8-)

As I wasn't too sure if they would unite.. spring and they seem to be coming along ok (seeing buds) except one is slow off the mark.. fingers crossed

The plan from here once they fuse is that I will unite them all

Bonsai/sex is like Voltron. The more you connect, the better it gets!

This may be a horribly beginner question (however): Is the concept to increase growing speed multiplied by the amount of plants, or does the use of multiple plants just give you a head-start on the base/trunk calliper? :reading:

Evenings you've pretty much said it yourself.

By connecting more, I hope to "build" a bigger better tree in a shorter amount of time (which ofcourse in bonsai years is ages).

Figs are hard as I have read so make a good experimental project as you can mold n fuze!

Nice work :-)

The individual trees will grow and fuse into each other, to make a single stump / trunk mass. This will give a large base quite quickly.
