Bodhi Acer palmatum forest (BODHI ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD 2012)

When he visited i could see his enthusiasm coming out of him. He then had a horrendous trip home which ended up with having to tow his car home and, obviously, costly repairs. All this he posted with a smile on his face. He goes to most shows and Bonsai related meetings and i personally found him a, very easy to get on with, kind of guy. If he wants, we will get together in spring and create a Maple group selected from my stock and supply a pot to go with it. We will share a beer and hang out for a while.
Best wishes to you all,
Bodhi.
Well, after much anticipation, last Sunday I was invited up to Bodhidarma. Whilst up there to lend a hand with the repotting efforts, the other project at hand was to create the generous gift of a Maple forest. With a couple of helpers we set about selecting appropriate starter Maples to be included in the composition. After preparing (trimming branches and roots) the challenge of composing began, and with Diederick's guidance, this was the result ...

It will spend the first couple of seasons in this larger training pot to put on growth, settle in together and to be refined.

I am thrilled to have had this experience :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: , and will treasure this forest as a sentimental favourite, obviously never to be sold ;) I would like to again thank Diederick for his absolute generosity, guidance and hospitality :worship: , and look forward to many more visits back to Bodhidarma in the future :tu:

Thanks mate this is VERY

All the best for a speedy operation and recovery :fc:

PS - yes I know the writing is at the front, however I liked the typography better than the picture, and as it's training pot it's not too important, but I'd be interested if anyone can tell me what it means. ;) :lost:

Cheers,
Ryan
Though I should start its own progression thread to track and show the progression of this most treasured prize. Young in development, these trees have only just begun their bonsai journey together. I found time on Boxing Day to give it a major trim and (further preliminary) branch selection. Just trying to ensure overall health (which is pretty good so far :tu: ), get some growth going and new branching to set before wiring up.

Cheers,
Ryan

Incorrect Ken, Ryans are also Acer palmatum. A friendly little comp would be good :tu:

Hi Ken, nice start there, you'll have to show us how they're going now! As Bodhi stated (and the topic header ;) ) they're definitely Japanese Maples :tu: My courtyard is fairly enclosed so you might just beat me on Autumn colour depending on the weather ;)

This hot weather had burnt quite a few leaves so defoliated today so i can see what is happening inside and get rid of the crispy ones.
Lots of shoots, not much branching yet, but only early days

Nice! One of my LAs is about to sprout new leaves, hopefully tomorrow morning some will have unravelled.

Hi beano, my LA has been in full leaf for about 2 weeks now and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch it come to life. I'm on Brisbane south side

Mines probably a bit slow as I've been torturing it all year. It only lost its last leaf about 3 weeks ago. The other one still just has the purple buds, not swelling yet.

My Japanese maple has decided today is the day to start opening up. This is my first season with this tree and it has been trunk chopped over winter so it has decided to take it a little slower than the LA.

It looks like a defoliate and wiring job coming up this summer
