[trade] Swamp Cypress Seeds

Post by Rob_blue »

Hi Everyone,
On the weekend I collected about 300 grams of swamp cypress seeds from a mature tree here in brisbane! The cones have 3/4 dried and seeds are everywhere! is anyone interested in swapping seed of any kind? Make me an offer.

Cheers
P.s I will be keep some seed for myself :tu:

Hi Rob,
I suggest you sow now if you want any succes. Any later and they may not make it through winter.
You may want to break some of the seed to see if they have not dried out.
I collected and planted 80 seeds 12 weeks ago and only had 2 come up. Both are aleady 400mm high and pencil thick.

Be well,
Zyggy.

Rob, I think maybe you have 300g of swamp cypress CONES. The seed only makes up a small part of that.

Hi Neil,
You normally get about 8 seeds out of each cone, if you are lucky 1 in a cone is viable.
I probably pick them too early but still find that only 1 in10+ are viable.
When i did the break test on my last batch i was unlucky to have tested and killed 2 out of the 4 viable seeds.
Still 2 fast growing healthy trees are all that matters!

It has been raining in Melbourne for a few days now, very welcome, the frogs have woken!
I will take a pic of the 2 swampies and post probably tomorrow, they do grow fast!
Be Well,
Zyggy.
