This is my first tree... I need to shape its pads a bit but its coming along

Yes, keep looking at the pads.
Did you work on the root structure when you repotted.

No I didn't.

I chopped about 50% of the rootball off... raked out the edges a bit to make the roots move outwards.

I wasn't brave enough to really start hacking away at the root ball... Not for a first tree :(

I may try my luck on some smaller less expensive trees
