Reading through the blog, he also uses old tuna cans for some of his shohin size trees. Very interesting, and definitely not something I would have thought of!

Good imagination, nicely designed, for me. Thinking outside the square/round/oval thing. It may not catch on, Bodhi, but if it's done well, we might look at something else that's a bit more unusual...

I like it, though I don't think I would ever do it. I suppose maybe this is what you do when you already have a bunch of really nice trees? The artist (Greg Brenden) has had at least one tree I'm aware of displayed at a US national show, and his tree made the cover of International Bonsai magazine last year. I have a ways to go before that. :? I just found (and followed) the blog, so I can't tell you much more about Greg, but I'm keen to see what he'll come up with next for sure.
