Working out canopy width ?

Post by Paulneill »

I have never came across any guidelines for canopy width, we all know about the 1/6 guideline for height proportion but what about a tree with a large canopy, take a ficus for example . Is there a guideline measurement for canopy width ?

Never heard of any Rules or otherwise.
For me if it looks right, then it probably is right.

I've never heard of rules for canopy width, but I think it's guided by trunk balance. Larger canopies make the trunk look smaller and less powerful, and smaller ones have the opposite effect. Sumo trees with tiny canopies just look awkward, same as twigs with large spreading canopies.

A good question to which there is no answer. Canopy's will vary according to style, species etc. We only need to look at nature to see how diverse Our Mother really is.
