Ficus ID and advice if you like

Post by eddieperth »

Hello all, have a look at this ficus. Sorry if the pics aren't that great. Was wondering if anyone can tell me the species? I got it a couple of years ago from Lee's Bonsai and was told it is a S. African fig. Don't think that narrows it down much though.

Also open to styling advice. I bought this tree about 18mos before I began to get serious about bonsai. In that time it got really leggy, and I'm try to rein that in a bit. I'm liking how it is coming together as a semi cascade.

I'd also welcome advice on what type of pot to use with it. The one it is in doesn't work at all in my mind, and I plan to re-pot it in November, so would love to get an idea of what to be looking for.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

What makes you believe that it is a Ficus? Not seeing any that I know and the bark on the trunk does not look like one to me. Leaf shape is not any that I recognise.

Sorry, hope someone can help.

Nailed in one. They are the subject used in large figs in a hurry, the thread that Steven put up for me.
