I did make some notes to hopefully write something for our newsletter when I have the time (and if I can read what I've written). The paint was to make it look like it had been through a bushfire - much more appropriate for our natives.

how brutal can you be when trimming roots off a Water Gum when moving from a nursery bought 6 inch pot into a bonsai pot? any particular roots i should take care in not cutting?

I have done 2 recently. Both I took off most of the roots as the looked a lot like pretzels.
1 has done really well, and the other carked it
If you leave as many small roots as you can then you will be fine. I woudl take off 50 - 70 % no worries so long as the after care is good
