Its not a pine i believe mate, I think it maybe a cypress of some kind but im not expert with ID , for 6 bucks you wave got something fun to play with. The foliage can be hard to control on these. and im not sure like most conifers if you cut back past old growth you may suffer dieback?

Yep certainly doesn't look like a pine to me.
I'd say some type of Juniper or maybe a Cypress as well.

At a wild guess Chaemecyparus obtusa - there are a lot of rockery dwarf forms, I think. I'm totally not an expert. You'd never cut back to bare wood, and repot lightly in late winter, just as the new buds swell. I've seen worse root balls - don't go too mad too quickly. Good score.

It is not a Pine. As has been pointed out, it could be one of the many Cupressus or Chamaecyparis.
I am sorry I could not be more specific.

Thanks for all the info guys. I didn't know what it was.It was hidden in behind a bamboo screen I think someone May have placed it there to grab it another day. I've just decided loosen the rootball
A bit an repot to something larger for the winter. also a tidy up to let some light in hope it goes well
