There's not been a lot this year, but here's a little Chinese elm, golden and brown:
Although I quite liked the colour contrast with the milkweed:

and bare two weeks later:
Also a Callery Pear in the garden, a month later than the street trees because it sits by a warm wall:

Goergous little C. elm Gavin. Now would be the perfect time for a little wiring yes, no, maybe. It looks like you clip and grow

Re: More autumn colour
And Bonsai Raspberries to you, Sir Matthew. I do have whole trees, but not a lot I'm keen to show. Give me another 50 years or so...
Incidentally, for those wondering who "Beatrice Wood" is, who makes mistakes in MattA's signature, she was mad as a cut snake, and made luminous pots till she was 100:
Sco,
It's an unchopped commercial Japanese pot, from (highly unreliable) memory Ray Nesci's. Most likely a copper?rutile glaze - the green-grey break gives it away. I like the tree, and love the pot, but I'm not sure the rim suits the the way the trunk rolls.
Dear Bodhi. Dear oh dear. How can I say this politely? Wiring does not happen round here. I clip, it grows, repeat, etc. As you suggest, the branches are not refined - I have so far just Ramified Frenetically, even Mindlessly. I think now that I'd prefer the open graceful structure that you see in a lot of Chinese Chinese elms. Not at all as easy as it is made to look. Lots to learn.
(On reflection, I want the trunk to dominate. So I don't want the branches to reach. Possibly I should. Hmm.)

Re: More autumn colour
Good morning Gavin,
Very nice bonsai mate. Gotta say, I'm with you on the clip and grow with Elms. Affordability is my prob. Wire goes to the needy
Never had heard of Beatrice Wood. So interesting to read about her. She sounds very cool!
Love the pot too, and I see what you mean by the lip maybe not enhancing the bend. As its a semi cascade though, and the placement of the rock, it works ok. It's certainly not distracting. My first look at your first photo was the Elm. Not the pot.
I always look at someones bonsai, and one of the first questions that comes to mind when I see how fat it is...is how old is it? So Gavin, how old is it

Re: More autumn colour
Ah. Mmm. Yers.... No idea Woody, sorry. It was a cutting, I hooked it round with a piece of wire, and put in the ground for a few years, then grew taper into the end for a few more. 10 -15? I'm slow.
