Hi Everyone,
A friend of mine has a large Irish Strawberry tree in the garden which they are planning to chop to make space for their new shed early next year. I wanted to air layer some branches but not sure if they will root or not.
So has anyone ever tried to air layer Irish Strawberrry tree and is there any tips that may help. Thank you.

Irish Strawberry Air layering
Ha! Just read about these, the species name is unedo. Apparently it means "I eat one", because they don't taste that nice.

Re: Irish Strawberry Air layering
I have grown Irish Strawberry as cuttings so should be easy to grow layers.
No special tips but look for branches with movement and taper.

Re: Irish Strawberry Air layering
Hi Guys,
I thought it's about time to give you an update on the air layering. Well I airlayered 6 branches of different sizes and shapes and did not see any roots for at least 8 months. Luckily my friend was in no rush of getting rid of the mother tree. But when they stay the construction work, the tree had to go. So I cut all 6 air layered branches off, some with barely any roots and planted them in well drained bonsai soil. And kept fingers crossed.
Out of the 6 only 2 survived and they are now flowering.
Now I will just water, feed and grow them for a few year before they beginning their initial bonsai training.
Will keep you poster
Cheers,
Jay

And keep the flowers/fruit off the plant as well for a few years. The flowers will sap a fair bit of strength from your cuttings, so I wouldn't be inclined to leave them for now mate.Jhalkhoree wrote:
