Re: trunk chop and repot
Hi Bazron i layered 2 x 2 meter high tridents a couple of you ago then severed the layers , ripped them out of the ground root pruned real hard as the only had 30mm roots . Both trunks were 50mm plus and had no shoot down low . Both are alive and have become good starter trainers .
I have chopped smaller 20-30 mm trunks and completely removed all the root back to a naked trunk and regrown from there .After care like with all material is a good thing .I don't take much care , just throw them back in the grow beds , last year i put quite a few into planter bags , just finished hacking them back in the foliage department , yet to check out the new root mass .
Cheers Alpine.

Re: trunk chop and repot
We dug all the tridents (about 80) from the growing beds last weekend. Pruned all the roots back to about 1-3 cm long (depending on the size of the trunk) and cut all the tops back hard as well. I've been doing this for nearly 20 years and can't remember losing any. so the answer is YES you can cut roots and top and repot all at the same time
