Juniperus Procumbens - Bill Valavanis Cascade Workshop

Post by Jason »

After a great workshop with Bill Valavanis on the weekend, I thought I might start my first progression series on the tree I created with Bill's help.

Was a great demo and workshop, I found that Bill talks on a level that is very easy to understand and comprehend, so really learnt a lot.

I went in with a stock Juniper that had had no previous work done to it. Next time, I think that I'll actually clean it up a bit before the workshop, as I found I had an awful lot to do with not too much time! Still, I got there in the end, wired my little butt off, but think the outcome was pretty good :) Was glad to get a compliment on my wiring too :tu:

The stock

After a bit of a tidy

Bit more of a tidy, and also found that the trunk line was quite straight

Which is why we wire!

The rest was pretty much solid wiring of each branch, which I didn't take any photos of as I managed to cut my hand open on my new Kaneshin scissors (they really are THAT sharp). Bill then came around and helped with the styling of my tree. This is what I came away with (sorry for the lighting) :)

Sorry for the picture layout, I can't upload pictures from this PC :(

Comments are more then welcome!!

Excellent result, and I agree that Bill is a good teacher. Your tree will continue to improve with time and good care.

Would anyone know how long I should wait before potting this tree up? Or am I ok to do it now?

Will be into a training pot, a little bigger and tiny bit slimmer then the current one... basically a typical cascade training pot.

Jason, most of the trees that were created on Saturday were potted up as well, it is the after care you give to the tree that matters, not too much SUN not too much WIND not too much WATER

Cheers Pup

Thanks for that Pup, is just a bit awkward in the current pot as I need to sit it on the edge of my bench... which is in full sun and a little bit too likely to fall off :o

Wasn't sure if I should let it settle a bit before putting it into the training pot... but I guess it'll be ok as I'm not really doing any root work? I get this massive paranoia after I create these tree's with you guys, I don't want to touch them in fear of doing something wrong :P

thankyou again for the reply

Don't be afraid to tie the pot to your bench Jason.
Nice tree mate!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
