Callistimon Cutting from Steven

Hi all
At the end of last term at school, Steven was pruning and repotting his big callistimon (I cannot find the post now?) and took of a bent and twisted cutting.

He suggested I pot it up and "as I need more trees" :palm: :palm:   see if it can grow.
I chucked it into a pot of Diatomite / zeolite, and left it on a tray in the shade where I propagate any larger stock I have.
It was well and truly Dried out and looking sad, so thought it had not taken, but while watering this morning noticed a new shoot on it :o

As pup has described before they are easy to take largish cuttings of by sitting in water and waiting.

Hi Ken,

The diatom/ zeolite mix do you use that for cuttings only or is that your standard soil mix?

Proof is in the pudding! :)

That looks like a pretty decent sized cutting too, might have to go have a look at the street trees that line my area, see if I can get some myself :P

Am trying to build my native collection :aussie:

Hi all and thanks
Yep Bodhi, checked in the pot and forgot about it largely :-)
The base of the cutting must be about 25- 30mm diameter ( 1 inch or so). A little thicker than thumb sized

It is my standard mix of 2/3 diatomite, 1/3 zeolite. I use that in all my trees.
