Potbelly fig

Post by johesian »

Hey all, I have made a stop down to my local bunnings in perth and picked up a very young/small fig with a small potbelly trunk. I am hoping to achieve the the look of a thick potbelly. Firstly I obviously wanna know the best way, I am pretty sure by placing it in the ground and allowing trough and thickening to occur will be the best shot, and if so as in perth it is currently in autumn (or very close to getting into it) and was wondering if I could place it in the ground and if I should use some left over bonsai mix I have lying around and place it where I am planning to place the tree, the location I was looking to replant the potbelly fig was 2.5 by 2m stretch of garden with a green mesh over head, I think it has a good sense of shade and open space in a safe space it won't be ruined, all feedback will be great thank you :)

( I would take a photo but on my ipad it seems to be to large of a file)

You can also get various apps that can resize your ipad photos on the iPad (I'll look what I app I got if you can't find before then), unfortunately they all seem to make a copy in the camera roll, but uploading attachment within a reply is then easy (which negates the need for Tapatalk on the ipad)

As for your fig, yes you could pop it in the ground, being in Perth you may be just in time. I'd consider the 'fast grow method' for figs viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3173&hilit=fast+grow+fig#p33848 in a styro box, means you can move if necessary. I'd hesitate growing a fig under shade, in winter, unless you get frosts in your area.
Cheers, Ryan
