I am growing some fuchsias as bonsai this year, and do the care calendar suggestions apply to the fuchsia as well?
Any suggestions as to when to do what to create a fuchsia bonsai?
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Fuchsia Bonsai Calendar
Really, growing a plant for bonsai isn't that different from growing the plant normally. Being in a pot you will probably water & fertilise a bit more frequently but really, nothing on the growth side really changes.
The only addition is the things we do to maintain & improve the bonsai - and when to do it. So knowing when the plants are starting to bud or when they are going into dormancy is important as this, more than a date, decides when you re-pot, root-prune, trim your tree etc.
So follow growing a normal pot plant most of the time & use the bonsai calendar as a guide only. Where you are, your local climate & micro-climate all effect the growth cycle so what your plant is doing is your best guide. You may do things a month or two different to what the calendar says as each plant in each situation is different.
Hope that makes sense????
Cheers

Re: Fuchsia Bonsai Calendar
Well my dwarf fuschia just died for no good reason this summer.
Any ideas why?
I assume incorrect watering to be out of the question.
Are there acidic issues that I am unaware of?

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Ya there could be a acidic issue. Most potted fuchsia are similar to orchids...which I haven't tried to grow or even try to keep alive.Boics wrote:Well my dwarf fuschia just died for no good reason this summer.

Fuchsias are kinda picky, and over-watering is sometimes an issue.
I am always learning...but aren't we all.
