[ID] Help with ID please

Hi guys,

Found this little guy on a friends property and was hoping for some help with ID please.
I'm crossing my fingers that it's not some noxious weed

This is a little one but there were much larger ones with craggy bark on the trunks - and I realise that it isn't very bonsai-esque currently.

All of the more mature ones I saw were less than 3m in height and still had small leaves on them.

I'm guessing no one has any ideas on this one?

I can take some better pictures of this one if it will help, or if need be I can get some photos of the mature trees.
From what I can see of this tree so far it doesn't seem to back bud (will have to confirm with mature trees) and readily reshoots from the roots? Or somewhere near that (maybe suckers???? I don't know ) when the plant is burnt out like this one was (if you look really hard in the second photo you can see remnants of the original, now burned and rotted trunk).

Just for reference, the leaves are only 15mm long and the pot is 290mm (long axis) - sorry for not including some sort of scale in the photos

Sorry Rob, You are way out of my area and though the plant looks familiar I'm reluctant to even guess at a genus let alone species. It is often very hard unless we have an idea of the shape and size of the adult trees and/ or flowers or fruit. Any possibility of any further clues?

I don't any other details I'm sorry, so I guess this calls for some further research on my part

I'll head out early next week and see if I can borrow a friends camera to get some photos of the more mature trees.

Hi everyone,

I was out and about today and snapped a few photos of some of these plants in their natural habitat, hopefully this sheds a little light on this mystery.

It can also be noted that the fruit/berry was quite hard, and upon crushing it I discovered that it shoots yellow juice - all over your nice clean white shirt

Well thanks to everyone that had a look, I'm pretty sure I've solved this one after some google image searching.... Pretty sure... Still open to suggestions but I'm happy with this conclusion.

Afaik it's a Petalostigma banksii, or smooth-leaved quinine.

Looks like a pretty interesting species, and from what I can tell seems like a good candidate for bonsai. The fruit would make for a very nice display, and a great contrast to that rough, mature bark. Let us know how you go. I might have to look into some seeds.
