Has anyone had any success with grafting scots pine, would appreciate some ideas?
Busy working on tree in link below, and starting to look at options to create growth closer to the trunk.

Was considering two options:
1) Scions - have seen some conflicting comments here, some recon that excessive SAP flow prevents effective grafting. Would have thought doing so now, when growth slower would be a suitable time, before active growth in spring.
2) Approach graft - have some sacrifice branches I could use, this would probably be a safer approach.
Have seen mention of placing scions in mouth while preparing branches (probably not for pine though), this would inhibit SAP flow which seems to be the biggest problem. Saw a very interesting demo on grafting at the Vic Native Club couple weeks back, so fine with the preparation of the scion.
Probably a stupid question, is pine SAP harmful if swallowed

When is the best time to attempt above?
