Camelia this time

Here is a little Camelia I rescued from my M.I.L.
Dug it out and airlayered off the top as a multi trunk tree.

Though I would grab a photo in flower last weekend

Forgot to mention that my plan is to let the centre extend up while I lower the outside trunks to form some foliage pads

This is in my Diatomite / Zeolite mix which is why I had to tie it in the pot

How long has this one been in your care, and how does it go at repotting time? I ask because I have read that Camellias don't like having their roots disturbed.

Camellia can take a bit of fuss but certainly there is a time. I always do mine after flowering and before leaf buds start to open. They are good growers too. I would put that one into the ground or box and you will get good results but don't let the growth extend too far (pinch back) or you will have a telephone pole before you can say 'I think my Camellia is going really well'

Only had this one for a year and a bit.
Was dug out of ground that was something aking to concrete and did not have much root on it. Potted up and decided to layer just below the breach split after about 6 months as the old base was horrible.
Been in this pot now since early autumn when I took the layer off. I let it flower so I can have a look at what it was like. ( after 20 years in the Mother in laws garden I never saw it flower well and it hardly grew.

I will wait till early - mid spring after flowering stops and repot then so will have a look what I have down there. Treat somewhat similar to Azaleas I think and pot around the same time too.

Thansk Damien I will do just that to try to get some budding happening lower down to pick from and use.

Hey Ken,
Any update on this one mate? Over the last 12months or so I have been developing a keen interest in Camellias and I have recently purchased a few.

I has done nothing in the pot worthwhile over 2 years, So put it in the ground last year. since then has not put on much growth, but has flowered well.

Maybe a few years in the ground might kick start dome decent growth
