This Juniper has been ignored for some time so finally I decided to do some work with it.
The general rule with Junipers is that you don't prune more than 50% off in a vegetative period..
I did get carried away yet these guys are very hardy and this is as far as Im willing to take it without further wiring.
Front 1 or 2?
Cheers

Well done, braver man than me. But you can see the die back of those needles that were shadowed by the ones originally covering them. Anyway keep us posted.
I have six very old Davurica. Not a very popular sub-species around here. I received these in bags. They had grown in a nursery, got too thick and strong and moved to the back of the nursery. More than 20 years old, thick trunks and I got hold of them. They had 8, I bought 6. I managed to kill one. Too eager. Potted it at the end of winter and then also cut the roots and foliage too hard. It just never recovered. Such great potential. But, I have 5 left. Two have gone into pots. One being grown without hinderance, as I cut the branches very hard last year. It is growing strongly this summer. Massive relief. The other is being trained. First wiring took place two weeks ago. Still a lot to go and the right pot. This is a large pot to get it used to being able to spread its roots. The other three will be placed into plastic poly boxes later in the year. The one I will airlayer the top off soon and then do something dramatic with the stub and a lower branch of what is left behind. The other two just need to grow for now, the one has very dramatic features, which I will do something with over the next year.
Hi Inspired, Looks like you are well on the way to creating a unique bowed head literati if I am not mistaken. Good luck with the re growth and I like front 2 at this stage, were there any more offers of front to consider? Gradually increase feeding and make sure that you mist the foliage regularly until you see active new growth. Cheers, Michael.
Awesome work
I love to see Pines and Juniper with Raffia or tape under the wire
It usually means some serious bending and shaping happening to give great movements

Hi Michael
Yes u are spot on as Junis lend themselves particularly well to this style.
I just love abstract or quirky conifers. Great thing too is that with such designs abstract by nature I often see 3 or 4 possible fronts to enjoy. Thanks for the tips too.
