Abused stick in a pot.

Post by Sammy D »

While at my parents a couple of months ago I found this tree in the middle of about 8 fruit trees. Fairly sure its a plum but I could be wrong. There were pear, apple, plum and peach in the area to name a few. It was self sown in the middle of them. Anyhow I was a bit brutal on this poor little tree and ripped it up by hand. Managed to snap the top off one side, split the trunk and strip some bark off. Once finally up with very little root I chucked it in its current pot with sand from collection spot. 2 months on I am very Suprised to see this poor little tree is still alive. Deciduous trees are so resilient.

A stick in a pot is better than no stick at all. Remember even the best bonsai started as a stick.

I have one like this. It's a plum I got from the side of the road.

A tip, the bark tends to die back from the margins of damage.
Patience is often a surprise.

Had a look at your post time8. Nice score. Yeah def a plum. Ill let it grow this summer and see where the natural die back occurs. Then get the old carver out and have some fun during the winter :tu:
