Great transformation, brightens up the whole patio area. Also helps that you have some cracking trees to display!

Agreed, looks fantastic the White slates really set the trees off. you obviously had to match the quality of your trees.

Ummmm... How can I say this tactfully....

AWESOME!

Great trees in an incredibly great setting - I could sit there for hours (with a beer of course) and just look.

AWESOME! (Did I say that already?)

Thanks for all the positive feedback, it was nice today to be able to put away the drill and take up the scissors again.
I thought that I should share some of my ideas.
Previously I had made the mistake of using very heavy shade cloth. In the summer months it was fine but in winter I was forced to move everything out into sunnier positions.
With the new set up, colorbond roofing provides shelter from sun and rain in the sitting area but above the trees there is open sky and below the trees is water. I hope that this will achieve maximum benefit for the trees with lots of light and humidity. The slats allow some air movement but still protect from strong winds and the white background will reflect light into the undercover area while giving a nice view of the trees. A solid wall area without gaps serves as a wind break, hides the clothes line and will make a simple backdrop for photos to be shared on Ausbonsai.

This looks fantastic! Really well done, my one query is, as you've pointed out above: "reflects light". Would this not be a detriment to your trees?
I know in my neck-of-woods, you DEflect everything because it's too flippin hot!

Your thoughts?

Winter time is when I want to maximise light. I sometimes get slack and forget to rotate trees, i feel this set up gives fairly even light from all directions but only direct sunlight for a few hours. I am yet to see how it works for an extremely hot day.
