pepper tree progression.
Pulled this up from the neighbors yard as he was clearing it out anyway. It grew well the first year then was repotted trimmed and carved that winter. I almost died and took a complete second year to regain health. Pushed it too far. This last year I put it in a bigger pot and it is growing really well. Been trimmed twice already. Here is the photos.

A stick in a pot is better than no stick at all. Remember even the best bonsai started as a stick.

Re: pepper tree progression.
Good start on this tree, we have a few in parks etc in our area and the trunks/bark texture on them is fantastic, the foliage might be a bit of a challenge though - but I guess that is just a personal observation.
Check out this one I saw in an earlier thread from Bodhi, it's a ripper...

Good luck with it!

I reckon this is looking great!
Not convinced this was the best stock to start with but your transformation is admirable!
Keep us posted on your progress,

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
