Bonsai Potters competition in the US

Came across this and thought it might be interesting for our Ausi Bonsai Potters to keep any eye on.

Maybe something to think about to help encourage our Bonsai potters in Australia one day and run a competition of our own.

I'd be keen to have a crack at the title... I'd dare say I be taught a few lessons (that I'd be happy to learn to be honest). Need to Fix my Kiln first

I think this is something that we should put some thought to and see how much interest could be generated. There is a large enough community of Australian potters out there that may be interested in producing a pot or two (even if they have never considered bonsai pots before) and there is nothing like a competition to spur innovation and imagination.

Yes I would be in that . Which pot or potter is "best" would be a totally subjective judgement , but a showcase for Australian Bonsai potters can only be a good thing . Graham

Possibly because some people enjoy the idea of a competition.
They might enjoy the challenge to both mind and skill to go the "extra mile" to win

Comps are not for everyone. and no one says anyone has to enter, but to have the opportunity to do so would be great

In many other countries there are competitive bonsai Competitions, but none here ( aside from Ausbonsai). Personally I wish there was in order to drive the standard of our trees up to higher levels.

As a craftsman, I find it useful to measure my skills against others' (skills). It's how I progress.
Several times I've entered the Canberra Potters' Exhibition (usually judged by well-regarded overseas artists), always hopeful of some recognition but I've never won a prize; but each time I've learnt something, and because of these lessons, maybe next time I will have some success.

since I started making bonsai pots I decided that they are as individual as every tree and personality of the owner.
if one person appreciates what they have bought from me then I am happy.

Absolutely agree with that. There is nothing quite like a commissioned pot to suit the particular tree.
If pot brings joy to the owner then you as the artist have succeeded whether you like 'em or not

Hey Pat what is needed to get you back into it and going to Adelaide?. We have missed you around, looking for some good Australian pots, I do have some by your contemporaries, but would love to see some more of yours. Hopefully in Adelaide.
