this was the Inaugural Penjing Competition jointly hosted by the Chinese Garden of Friendship at Darling Harbour and Bonsai Environment

it was part of their celebrations for Chinese New Year

the trees have been on display in the Chinese Gardens for the past 2.5 weeks with judging yesterday, 28th February

over 450 people voted in the Popular Choice category, they had free Make-Your-Own-Penjing classes and the Chinese Gardens were very happy with the response from the public

it is planned to run again next year and all Bonsai Clubs and individuals will be invited to contribute

Thankyou for posting. This sort of post is the reason I visit Ausbonsai.
Let's have more new posts of this sort of calibre
After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...

Looked to have been a terrific event.
Would have loved to have heard about it before it was all over.
We folk from the country don't mind a trip to the BIG SMOKE if there is a good Bonsai/Penjing event happening.
Sometimes we even venture down to buy stuff.

I found out through our Bonsai Club (I'm not sure how they found out)
I know the organisers contacted some Clubs but I'll make sure they know for next year to let all Bonsai Clubs know
I'll post it on Ausbonsai

as a sign of the times, you registered on-line
there was no fee to enter but you add to upload a photo
and you had to deliver your tree/s to the Chinese Gardens and pick them back up afterwards
I know the size limits confused some this time so I have suggested they just make it "no bigger than a two-man lift" for next year
that will mean, if you and a mate can get in in and out, then it's ok to enter

some people might find all of that a bit challenging but I'm sure within a group from a Club all this could all be easily arranged

in the meantime, it's definitely on again next year, so start preparing those trees and put it in your diary
