I have a nice Melaleuca Claret Top and I was wondering if now is the time to repot.
The tree has a lot of new growth on it, plus when I do repot I want to reduce the root ball by 25% to 50% so the tree sits lower in the pot.
Is 50% to much to do in one go?
The tree is about 800mm high, age unknown.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Melaleuca Claret Top - Repotting Advice
As it is already in a Bonsai pot you should be able to reduce by 1/3 at least. the tree should already have plenty of feeder rots near the trunk to maintain the tree after work.
Still plenty of warmth this time of year so i would repot now.

I would cut the top back quite hard at the same time. I always keep repotted mels in a saucer of water with lots of water if the mix is free draining. I always use Sea Mungus on top of the mix and water in with Seasol

Being aware of course, that the foliage is the factory to supply the roots. Though photosynthesis. So by removing to much at the same could put the tree back some. Cheers Pup
