Pinus densiflora..Japanese red pine

Post by bodhidharma »

Finished wiring this tree out today. It will be fun to work with tree and observe backbudding and development. Very early days. This tree started life at a Hiro workshop and he advised to leave the bottom branch. I know he likes low branches and secondary trunks. I personally do not like it but will leave it and see how it develops. I can always cut it later.

You've been busy lately Bodhidharma.

Is there a possible shohin hiding in that base and bottom branch? 8-)

Steven

Not sure about the first branch, is it needed?

I reckon the first branch balances the tree. Without it it would be too heavy on the left.

Nice job. Yeah I'd be inclined to keep the low branch for now.
Perhaps fix the bow on the main branch?, but it's going places.

I agree with Steven.
I think there is a huge potential to create a shohin from the first branch only and carve out the main trunk.
It would create a powerful little shohin.

Yes, there is but i am trying to stay true to Hiro's design.

Again i think not but i want to give Hiro's design a good crack first (out of respect) and can always take it of later.

Probably Hiros thinking to Jarad.

I dont understand the second idea Treeman? Fix the bow on the main branch.

I think this is what he means, still thin enough to bring the branch down a little and remove the "lazy bend"
