Post by tuma »

Will cheap bonsai pot crack over a period of time? These pots have hair line crack over the winter period. Too much watering?

Cheap pots may not be stoneware (fired to around 1300deg I think?) and therefore capable of absorbing water, which expands, and then can crack the pot in very cold weather. I'm no expert but the link below talks a bit about it.

I wouldn't reckon Brisbane was cold enough though...???

It does not have to freeze for the water to delaminates the pot .mit is a question of time . Just loading the kiln for another firing , it will go to 1280 Celcius . Graham
