Lovely back budding trees on Power Stree Southgate

Hey everyone
So I saw these lovely trees whilst in the car on city road. They look lovely and back bud very well by the looks of it. I was wondering what species they are.

These trees are located on power street in Melbourne Victoria. They line the street on both the yarra river side and the botanic gardens side.

These are elms.
English elms I think.

I agree Dennis. Ulmus procera - English Elms. They are quite common street trees in Melbourne and were also planted around many farm houses. They often grow lots of suckers from the roots and can end up as a forest where they are not mowed regularly.
Lots of great bonsai made from English elm suckers that have been kept small by sheep and cattle in rural areas. You can also collect taller suckers and cut the trunk low and they will produce lots of new shoots from the stump so you can grow a new canopy. Try searching English elm on Ausbonsai and elsewhere for more inspiration.
