watering with pond water
Hi everyone was wondering about your thoughts on something I've started doing. I've got a pond with a few fish and once a week I change some of the water by taking out 2 buckets and refilling , I used to throw it away over the lawn but then I thought about aquaponics ( because one of my work colleagues has started up an aquaponic setup ) and have started to water it over my bonsai. Can it do any harm such as introduce diseases or something or is it ok. I'm still carrying on my usual fert program , can this be over doing anything. Thanks guys

Re: watering with pond water
I'm looking forward to your review on success in 12 months time. I don't know anything about this but I do know that commercial fish farm enterprises used the "old" water to water tomatoes so I think it is a great idea.

Just to be on the safe side, maybe check the PH. I'm sure it'll be fine though.

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Hi,
I have been using my aquarium water for years without an issue, occasionally i water it down depending on how long it might have been between water changes

Re: watering with pond water
It really depends on the bioload your fish produce. As mentioned previously, Aquaponics uses this theory to produce food. Maybe read into that a little further if you are still apprehensive.

Hi peterb,
I have been using water from the Koi pond for years for my bonsai. As long as, you regularly change the pond water, no over feeding your fish the ph should be reasonable & will benefit your bonsai by adding nutrients & save on fertilizer. If your fish are alive & healthy, so should your plants.
Regards,

Thanks for the replies everyone, isn't it funny you think you're doing something quite new only to find someone else has been doing it for years
