Murraya Dig

Post by Lane »

G'day,

I've dug these Murraya which were suffering under the shade of a bigger more dominant tree in the neighbours yard.

I'm in two minds about whether to chop it further down, although I read a thread earlier from Ken where he mentioned he liked to keep them a bit taller due to the compound leaves?

I feel like it doesn't have enough taper to keep it this long but the first pic which is my proposed front it curves toward you nicely as you can see from the bend in the other pics and as Ken said the extra height may match the compound leaves.

Here is his little brother.

They are soaking in Seasol and will be potted up tomorrow.

Cheers.

Why not wait and see what buds develop, you can always shorten it later.

Never a bad idea either, I guess in the back of my mind I was hoping the shoots wouldn't just appear at the top third of the tree so by shortening it further would mitigate that if it happened.

Nice trunks :-)
Do not be too hasty to shorten them as you can pick a lower shoot anyway to cut back to later if you want.you may want to keep them taller anyway as the compound leaves do not reduce much, so a taller tree may suit them better.

Keep lots of water up to them and out of direct sun if you can for a good few months I would wait until next spring anyway to do anything else.
Ps the one i collected christmas last year, i have only 2 months ago trimmed them back and wired them.
