Acer Campestre - Do I Need a New Pot?

Post by Watto »

I have been growing this for some time now and it has grown quite well. They are a bit of a difficult critter because of the large and course leaves, but none-the-less there are some good ones around, but always in the large size.
I have been considering changing the pot to one of classical Japanese style for maples, but I am not sure. Do you think a new pot would improve this bonsai?
I would appreciate your ideas and suggestions.

Hi Watto,
All the very best for Christmas and the New Year mate.

Do you think this improves it? You may also want to choose another colour.

Thanks Ray, I think that has improved it. I have a couple of pots that I will play around with in August next year, that is the inspiration I need.
All the best to you and all your gang for Christmas and may the New Year bring great bonsai fortune.

A larger pot most definitely.
Maybe cream or Blue, Bill Valavanis like blue for Maples, shallow oval

Difficult to find those older Japanese pots that appear to be made specifically for maples, but I have a couple tucked away in the shed that I will bring out, I think I've got a green one and a cream coloured one. I am easily convinced so I am real keen to change the pot now.
Red? Red shoes are OK, but red pot would be out there.

Even if you didn't need a new pot for your Maple, I see a concrete reason which can't be disputed for justifying the purchase of a new pot anyway ;)

Just do the same as the vert; and stretch the pot.

Now where did I put that pot stretcher?

Merry Christmas Watto.

Hi Paul,
All the very best for Christmas mate. You have to do it in a photo editing program. The pot is selected then pasted on top of the photo. Because it's a selection you can stretch it in all directions and move it to where you want on the photo.

I like the rectangle better for some reason. It all comes down to a personal choice in the end, and I'm no expert!

For those who like a rectangular pot, this might be suitable?
