Choosing a pot for a juni

Post by ben17487 »

Hey guys, I styled this tree (some form of chinensis) recently.
It still has a lot of development and refinement to go as it's quite young. I got it from a conifer nursery a while ago for $15.
I didn't know what to do with it for ages as a lot of the inner branches and buds had been trimmed off leaving only a few puffy pads with no bends....
Anyway decided to go with a literati style.

Basically I was after some advice on what type of pot may eventually suit it. I might as well keep an eye out in the meantime hey!

Another question on this tree would be, what's the best way to compact this species foliage? It's quite leggy at the moment and seems to grow pretty quickly. It put on a few mil of growth a week or so after styling it.
Should I just be trimming strong growing tips?
I'm reluctant to pinch as I've read that by doing so you're removing the trees healthiest foliage and it's not a good way to go about it..

Great variety for bonsai and that will be a great tree in a few years.

With regards to choosing a pot, you could follow the rules and purchase a pot thats round, rectangular or six sided ( polygon ) its up to your own personal taste.
If you can get a copy of Deborah Korreshoff's book, she explains choosing a pot based on size and colour very eloquently.

Awesome, thank you Brian!
Yeh that's mainly what I'm after advice on, colour, finish, shape..
I will have a look for that book, sounds like a good piece of kit :)

Also any styling advice/criticism on the tree is welcome!

Cheers
