Bougenvil trees I collected of a toll road being extended in South Jakarta, i prepared to cut all main branches the day before then the excavator dug under the roots and here we go.
The wooden branches break very easy so bending them is done over many steps. the result however is fantastic. I tend to wire green branches and leave them wired until they keep their position. (4-8 weeks) then i remove the wire and leave them alone for two weeks or final branching is desired. i kept the root semi shaded for 2 month then start placing them into full sun. I trimmed branches and started wiring ASAP the length i desired was given. De foliage was done every time I wired.
After I had the desired amount of branches I started bending them into wind swept shape and formal upright.

Here we see the stages of wiring and bending the branches, don't worry if you think the branches don't get thick enough, they will thicken up very much so.
de foiling will encourage new branches develop on the leaf knots shortly after. Since the Bougenvil shoots like to grow straight up get your wiring timing right or risk to brake it up. I go out on daily bases (2-5) hours to attend my trees (100++ include nursery). You will see first the Bougenvil already 3-4 times wired and branched, the de foliating and wiring into final position. At the final wiring done I used a "Terrier" tool to do apply dead wood formation and knot hole styling. We can upload only a few file at a time, however i like to upload the details for the beginners so they get an fair idea what and how the process of the procedure is. I hope you don't mine.

The wiring is done with 1-6mm aluminium all depend on what branch thickness. However i like to use 2-3mm more these wires are not tend to grow into the branch that fast and keep a little longer on the tree too. Since Bougenvil seems or tend to foul or dry in very deep on the hard branch cutting i don't treat or remove dead wood until my branch styling begins, I treat it with sulphuric acid after styling its done.

Here we se the progress of new growth after bending, the tropics are ideal for that after three days you see the first new shoots and a few days later new leafs. If I reached my desired branching then I cut all leaves in a rule of thumb two or three leaf knots. so let two or there come out then cut the tip ASAP you can get a the scissor on it. In the next few days I will make pictures of the latest progress and growth. Hope you like it?!

Here the results of four trees, after de foiling wiring bending and styling. I now start cutting any new branches after the third or forth leave set shows. This depends on the growth too.
I am a friend of details, hence a four side view and some detail shots of the top.
Some branches stay small some shoot out with a lot of space between leave sets. the time between wiring and now is exact 4 weeks. I monitor every day on growth, and cut as soon the their leaves are able to being cut.the result is that the branch thickens and drives new growth. I also start cutting lager leaves sporadic. If i got all the new branches cut and grown all leaves come off. The new growth on leaves ends then start shooting again. the result is smaller branches and leaves.
