Chinese Elm Ramification X 2

Post by Watto »

It has been an unusual year here and Autumn has not brought the great colour that you expect with dry weather and clear warm days, however there is a silver lining to every "problem", and that is the leaves of the Chinese elms at my place have turned yellow and fallen before I had a chance to take a photo. Also its an early leaf shed, but like I said there is a benefit and that is the ramification is viewable for longer.

Very nice. Great twiggyness

Go the twig!! Seriously nice trees Watto - no problem appreciating them in their nudity for an extended period

Along with height info, how long would you have been working on the ramification?

HI Watto,
Great job mate. You have put a lot of work into the ramification and it has certainly payed off. :tu:

My Elm's here in Sydney are still showing some new growth. This is a good illustration of "Where do my trees grow?" Where do my trees grow? We live a few hundred kilometers from each other and there are two completely different growing environments.

Regards Ray

Both these still have a few green leaves, and other Chinese elms in my yard are in full leaf. Like Ray said it does depend on location but I think also on the individual micro climates in each yard.
The twin trunk is a bit unusual in that it is not the classical parent/child style but I have resisted shortening one of the trunks - just because. This is about 50 cm tall and has been grown in the clip and grow method for quite a few years.
The broom should be a shohin but currently stands about 28 cm tall so a trim is needed if I want to maintain it as a shohin. Maybe next spring I will take the shears to it.
