Fat Semi-Fused Fig Auction!!!

Post by FlyBri »

Gday folks!

Given the relative success of my Peppercorn Tree Auction, I thought I'd give it another go with this fat little Fig...

HISTORY: This Fig (species unknown, but it has been suggested by some that it could be Green Island Ficus) has been in my care for most of my Bonsai life (10+ years). It started as a single bulbous trunk, and over a few years I struck many cuttings which I have attached to the main trunk, in an attempt to simulate an old Banyan style tree. The 'fusing' process is not complete yet, but I expect that a year or so of strong growth in the right conditions would rectify this. I cannot provide the 'right conditions', and in its current situation, the tree gets frosted in Winter and baked in full sun in Summer. :|

DIMENSIONS: The tree stands at 350mm at the apex, and is 500mm wide (leaf to leaf). The widest point on the trunk is 150mm where it meets the soil, and at its narrowest is 100mm.

FIRSTLY, some photos of the Fig as it was 3 months ago:

If only you were in Sydney or vice versa... :(
Whilst walking through the forest of Bonsai Myths, I found a single small tree.
From it I learned all I needed to know.

One of the hardest parts is finding the info.(we should start a thread with all the info and links listed) Seeds and plants(last I checked) can be shipped to these states Hmm not sure I checked Tassie sorry?
But Wa is doable with appropriate procedure wich I forget what it is. I was allowed to ship seed there once with just a contact from AQIS written on teh letter along with a description of what the seeds where on the front of the letter.

Ok started one

We had a guy here who moved to I think it was Launceston. He shipped his whole collection in a container. I think he is a member now of the Bonsai club in that area.
Name of Shane Boyce. His enthusiasm is infectious.

We have also had guys that have bought tree's back from Melbourne. Workshop with Michael Persiano. Also from Sydney workshop with Masahiko Kimura.
The right Paper work as Brett has said can do it now. Pup ;)

Ps we can ship to any State from here just costly :(

i see him from time to time at the workshop, quarantine opened the container and squirted yuck stuff into the container.

everything that was squirted, died. the ones at the back were fine, but he lost nearly all his mel's and some were really impressive, he brought along a 1500mm literati mel and it was shooting from the trunk after dying back. nasty.

i love his hats :D

Yes he does like his hats. The only time I saw him without one was at the Belmont Bowling club. They do not allow hats to be worn inside the building.
That is where the club have a lot of visiting tutor session's. Tell him Derek said to say hello. ;)
