yeah.....of course it has a future. It looks fine but needs some more shape, nothing an afternoon of wiring won't fix.

Re: is there afuture for this tree?

i was kinda thinking of cutting the long end off to one of the first branches. like i the picture below.

well mate thats a part of bonsai, one patience and two developing the tree. patience is a virtue and if you wait and develop the branches after you give it an initial style you should be right!!MasonC wrote:my mum wants me to create a cascade aswell. but it has no real branches on the long part of the trunk

i will give it a bash and see what i can come up with mate, give me a bit though

Re: is there afuture for this tree?
ok mate, quick and dirty 5 minute virt. so dont expect to much but if you look at my post viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2059
this juniper was similar in growth to your cedar and this is what i mad of it. its still a work in progress but it dint have anything in the way of branching on the leg either!
the virt shows a little bit less foliage then would be nice but i hadnt put to much time in it!

Re: is there afuture for this tree?
on another note for future reference to this one mate, what you might turn into a cascde now can always be change into something else with a little bit of imagination, was just thinking you might go for another obvious one for this tree of a windswept style

Re: is there afuture for this tree?
a cascade is something that represents a tree on the side of a mountain that has been ravaged by the conditons.. to drop straight down like that it wouldnt give the rugged life of a mountain tree. you need to add turns and twists etc. into the trunk. remeber these are just ideas. look at the tree and find the bonsai within mate!MasonC wrote:thanx jamie. i just moved the trunk like this but yours looks better

you should be able to do it, even if it is little by little. i think you have enough to choose from to work it out
