Help needed to identify this bug

My ficus has been attacked by this little nasty critter, since we don't have biological decease killer I hit them with the chemical gun. They are dead now but I like to know more about it so maybe I can prevent future outbreaks. Thanks for any information.

I think they are thrips.

I just squash the folded leaves to kill them, then remove the leaf. They can be dispersed by wind, so I figure there is not much point spraying the plant.

Thank you for the advice, it were to many, I sprayed the hole front garden.
I tried to keep up by removing the leaves, could not cope.
