This Chinese Elm was dug from the secret Goulburn Bonsai Society Chinese elm spot (it is in/near Goulburn but I am sworn to secrecy) last year and so the cost was nothing.
It currently stands 35 cm tall from pot to top of tree.

A bit of cutting and a little bit of carving and I can now see the trunk. Looking for a suitable pot, but there is no rush.

Things are moving along with this one with just the usual water and fertilizer program.
I took a photo in October after a little more work and I was looking for the preferred viewing side, but now its getting a bit "hairy". Instead of neglected, I prefer to say it is "growing out".

[Small Trees]

The Colander's are a great idea. A grower in our club uses them all the time. Perfect for training trees. Nice little tree that one.

Its only been a little while since the last post, but things have changed, and I'm giving myself a rap in saying that they have changed for the better. Its a personal opinion of course.
My plan has been simple, water, fertilize, let it grow and then do some trimming and styling.
Still looking for a pot but I've got a few months yet.

Looking good to me too Watto. The "bones" of this are developing nicely. A bit of ramification and it will really start to look the part I reckon. Great stuff, looking forward to seeing your pot selection!

This one was dug out of the scrub and I don't know if that makes them grow "madder" but this one appears to grow at a greater rate than other Chinese Elms I own. This grows on the bench with a few other hopeful subjects and gets the normal care that they all get.
The pot, oh the pot. I just haven't seen the one for this as yet, but I have a couple of months to get it in. Maybe at the Tony Tickle week at the NBPCA where there will be heaps of potters work on display will give me some ideas/hope?

I think I have found a suitable pot for now and I just had to show off. Its an old Pat Kennedy pot I picked up from somewhere and it was chosen as there appears to be a good match between the bark colour and the pot colour. It is probably just a fraction big for this tree in the long-term, but I couldn't remove too many roots this time - it will be cold here soon and I didn't want to stress it.
