flowering quince stock ???

Post by mykal85bonsai »

Hello Ausbonsai members.
I was wondering if any one can tell me where I can get a really nice flowering quince stock plant. Preferably clump style.. I'm located in Liverpool Sydney. Happy to travel within reason.
Many thanks.

I don't think flowering quince get very thick. Flowering quince is generally Chaenomeles spp. They grow as multi trunk shrubs with relatively thin stems. Flowering quince is grown as bonsai. Easy to get thinner specimens but very difficult to find well established ones and mostly multi trunk clumps.
Pseudocydonia sinensis is Chinese Quince. It is used as bonsai and can make a much thicker trunk with beautiful peeling bark.

They are grown as clump style for a reason.
Never seen and large trunk on any. The one I have in the ground for the last 3 years has notput on a lot of girth in that time :-(

Not sure if gentleman is on this forum, but on eBay Graham had a couple (ground grown). Look up seller:parr1382.

Message him, he is currently able to ship bare root ones. But I was fortunate he dropped off a lovely double peach quince on his travels.

EBay is the place. They can be bare rooted and post through the mail in winter. I got one this way.

Always we hope someone else has the answer.
Bonsai is an art of shrinking.
