hey
theres a heap of giant hebe stumps out in my yard and would just like to know if you can bonsai them.

mate if you see potential in the trunk then why not?? do they have characteristics of bonsai....yes they can. woody trunk, good foliage etc. the biggest thing is once the tree is dug up to keep it alive and keep it healthy. if you can get it healthy while in the ground then you will be much the better for it! :D

I have tried a few mason and have found them very fussy in the pot regards back budding

thats the way to go with it mate, get it healthy and do intial prunes and styles while it is in there!

i don't know how old the plants are because i haven't had any experience with how fast they grow but their trunk are almost 2 inches thick. how old would this be?

you would have to look at the trunk chop, polish the cut smooth and count the rings. could tell ya but would be a wild guess if i tried :D :P :lol:
