I Got A Cutting From My Mums Wisteria
She was trying to kill hers it's not a very big cutting but it's a log cutting. Is there anyway I can get roots to grow out closer to the where it put out the stem? I thought it was going to die over winter as she poisoned her vine but with TLC I got a bud. I can't tell if it will flower or its just a leaf bud.

If there is a bud opening and no roots, the cutting will die.

There are roots but on the other end of the cutting I just want to know if it's possible to get roots to grow closer to the trunk so it will fit into a bonsai pot.

Ok. It's possible but worth the effort? Not sure. To do that, you will have to plant the cutting horizontally with just the new shoot exposed. As the shoot grows, bury it a bit deeper so the base is covered. You may get roots forming at the base of the new shoot or anywhere at any other node along the cutting. If there are no nodes, you probably will only get roots at the new shoot and/or more from where there are roots already.
The other option is to plant it upright and next spring cut off everything above the roots except for one bud (if there is one there) and go from there.

Look what happened a month later. I pushed it in a bit at the end with the trunk. It had a little root looking thing then I feed it seasol even few days. And I pulled it out to look at it and saw this. I cut it off and put steriprune on it and then put it in a bonsai pot.

May as well pot up both elljuu, you never know!

I did put back the other part as it has a dormant bud hopefully in a week or so with seasol it will grow
