Not really presenting these as bonsai but I have seen these crop up on forums from time to time so thought if it could help anybody out if they should feel so inclined to give them a shot.
These are now about 10 year old and spent the first couple of years in restricted growth and then I put them into these big pots, well off they went to the monsters you see now.
Haven't purposely wired them to any shape so don't be too critical of this, but where they stand at our back door I wanted to make them look as if they are reaching out of the shade to the sun, so the windswept style is the result and only done about three months ago, before that they were just gangly. I have re-potted into 20mm scoria and nothing else. (some Hebel block in the base so I didn't have to use all my scoria up). The potting mix I had them in retained too much water and I have had some root rot as a result. We'll see how they go in this. I have 5 others to do about 2/3rds the size of this to do. and I have 13 others all growing in scoria in trainee ROR fashion but way too early to show as yet.
sorry about the photos quality, its getting late in the day
