Post by alpineart »

These have been in the grow bed for a couple of years with Shimpaku whips inarch grafted to the trunks .

Several grafts were set including a double grafted single branch

. With all the grow stock removed trimmed and planted back into new beds these were the last 2 standing in the way of progression , so out the came .The inarch grafts were set buy V groving out the main trunk in order to get the Shimpaku flush with the bark on the new host . The union is much neater and with the application of grafting tape left on for 2 years

it has an almost invisible union . A quick trim of the needle foliage and I'm more than happy with the result

.The main Shimp' trunks aren't fused at the base so will be severed during the growing season and used again for more inarch grafts or Trainers . One of the plants both doner and host is a little weak , possibly from too much moisture and lack of light . Now in planter bags these can be placed in full sun .
