Red Flowering Hawthorn

This one is a little bit too heavy to set up for a proper photo, but it is flowering very nicely this year as well.
I call it red flowering, others may call it pink but what ever it is I like it. I dug this a few years ago and it is on a long bonsai journey, but it is the flower colour that attracts.

A very large tree Watto. Looked even bigger with the gum behind it

I have tried growing these, cant get a cutting to strike. Anyone had any luck getting them to grow from cuttings Pink,White.
If what please advise details.

Do hawthorn like an organic mix. Watto do you mind sharing a secret or 2 as in what soil mix or fert you my have used.

I've just purchased a hawthorn which is in a general nursery mix and it has flowers.

Do hawthorn back bud on old wood easy?

Edit:
I meant to say I also have another hawthorn that has never flowered but it does have sharp thorns/spikes. Do all hawthorn flower?

All hawthorns flower as far as I know but you might note that one of mine took nearly 20 years to start. I have noticed that a 'flowering' fertiliser (high P) definitely helps any flowering plants to do it better. Use high P fert from mid summer to help with flowers the following spring. I use the same mix for all my plants. Interested to hear what Watto thinks.

Watto, I noticed there are a range of flower colours on hawthorns here as well. I have seen some quite pink ones amongst the white flowered ones near Beechworth so assume it is natural variation. Yours is a good strong colour though.

Kirky, I have not been able to strike cuttings and I believe that Bodhi also posted that he has not had any success with a variety called "Pauls Scarlet'

The mix I use is almost inorganic, but I try to fertilize well.
I have never tried to grow Hawthorn from cuttings as there are plenty to dig as Yamadori in my area, in fact too many.

Looking at that base with the moss around it, it really does just look like grass next to a great old tree!

The Goulburn Bonsai Society will be having a dig for hawthorn next year, August if everything goes to plan. They will be the white flowering variety so if you are good...............
