Collected my first fig. Tips on aftercare?

Post by sheepdawg »

Hey everyone, I finally collected a fig and it's my largest plant yet :tu:

I planted it in a Styrofoam box in a mix of ~70% potting soil and ~30% perlite. It's currently sitting in a place where it gets direct sunlight from sunrise till about 10am. Is this alright?

Do you think I should cut the left branch a little lower? And how long before I should start to see some shoots?

Thanks

Oh yeah, I'm not sure what species it is (if it maters really). It's not a benjamina (thank goodness) or a microcarpa. I'm thinking it might be a rubiginosa because there's a HUGE tree nearby.
