Beautiful trees.
Love the sense of scale

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: Fremont cottonwoods
They are some great trees. I hear the leaves don't reduce at all from those who have tried them as bonsai. Wood is weak though, so branches fall pretty easy.
Also - I'm assuming you are actually in Fruita, Colorado, just across the border from Utah. If so, you're in my hometown! A drive over the Colorado national monument will be well worth your time to see some excellent Utah juniper and pinyon pine. Wish I was there!

Yes, I was in Fruita yesterday doingvthe scenic drive. It is an amazing and beutiful place.
I'm doing a lap of the big 5 in Utah - zion, bryce, capitol reef, arches, and canyonland. The junipers and pinyon pines are wonderful. Full of character. It is obvious where the big deadwood junipers originate and how are formed.
Just a matter of copying it. Simple eh?

Hard to beat nature, but we sure can copy. There are places where you can collect too, but I don't want to open that contentious can of worms. Hope you're enjoying your trip, lots of pretty sites/sights out there. I'm stuck in the plains, out in Kansas right now, and sure miss all the mountains and red rock cliffs. Hoping to move back in a few years.SteveW wrote:Karl
