A bit chilly at -10 deg C

Yep, the temp dipped down to minus 10 yesterday and backed up with another minus 10 today. It was a five layer day to do the morning rounds.

Minus 8 in Canberra yesterday and today and it was my first day out of Hospital for 10 weeks.

Staying warm cooking soup stock and soup for the coming week.

Now I wonder what I was complaining about
Only -6 down here for the last couple of mornings. No burst pipes here but plenty of emergency work for the plumbers around the town yesterday and today. Also callouts for SES to flooded homes after frozen pipes have thawed out.

Bonsai growers in other areas take note: Only subtropicals are moved to warmer location during winter. All temperate species manage quite well in the open at these temps.

Down to two degree here. I still leave my figs out, should I be bringing them in/under cover?

Do you get any snow at -10 Watto? Love looking at photos of bonsai covered in it.

Don't forget to take your watering wands inside otherwise they start to leak from the expansion. -4 here in the Central highlands.

Great to see you finally home Grant, and hopefully back into the bonsai soon.
Short sleeve t-shirt; long sleeve t-shirt; jumper; vest; coat; plus of course gloves and a hat! I admit I didn't go out until it was up to -8.
All good on the bonsai front though, except a couple of privets are starting to become deciduous.

February 2015 i left Melbourne at 42 degrees and arrived in Edmonton, Canada at -25.

Found a nursery (not a bonsai nursery) - all i saw was collection of sticks in pots. Not an evergreen in sight

Very cold start again today.

As for layers: singlet, t shirt, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve jumper, long sleeve jumper. Once outside add another bigger roll neck long sleeve jumper then long jacket over the lot.

simular -6.7 here the other morning first time dog water completely froze under the veranda . The figs have been in the hothouse last 4 weeks . everything else has remained exposed. Seems finally some rain for us the next few days. June was S#$T house for rain

I read in a book many years ago( Vertrees on Japanese Maples) that they survive in nursery pots down to about minus 12 or so. A cover of snow helps.
