Re: Malus halliana
Lovely tree Mike, loving the trunk. Is it a graft at the back as well as the side?

There are two grafts I put on about a month ago The low one which is directly onto a sucker from the stock (I decided not to cut it off but graft it instead) and the one straight onto the trunk further up on the left. The little shoot at the back is another sucker coming up which I may or may not graft next year. I really don't see much sense in having another low branch there at the moment though??
The plant is to cut off at the first bud and do something like this..but who knows how it turns out?....Actually, probably shorter on the left and longer on the right

Here's a close up of the grafts..

Re: Malus halliana
Great character-filled trunk Mike. So refreshing to see a trunk that has had some real work put into it. Maples and Crabs seem to take to and reward this really well.
